Immersive end point assessment
Eight VR modules let vehicle maintenance apprentices rehearse their end point assessment on a virtual vehicle, while an assessor follows every move from a tablet.
End point assessment is the final hurdle of a vehicle maintenance apprenticeship, and preparing for it properly means time on real vehicles, lifts, and workshop bays that are always in demand. Stellantis is working with us on an immersive way for apprentices to prepare that does not compete for workshop resources.
Apprentices sitting an end point assessment need repeated, realistic practice of core maintenance tasks under assessment conditions. In a busy training environment, vehicles, two-post lifts, and assessor time are all constrained, so rehearsal time is rationed exactly when apprentices need it most.
Stellantis recognised that VR could give every apprentice unlimited runs at the tasks, and asked us to build an immersive preparation experience for the assessment.
The experience runs on Meta Quest 3 and covers eight modules spanning core maintenance tasks, including braking and suspension. The apprentice works on a fully virtual right-hand-drive vehicle raised on a virtual two-post lift, carrying out each task hands-on exactly as they would in the workshop.
An assessor or trainer follows along on a tablet that mirrors the apprentice's first-person view, so they can watch technique and decision-making live without interrupting. The experience is now with Stellantis trainers for user acceptance testing.
