STELLANTIS, VR HIGH-VOLTAGE SAFETY TRAINING

VR high-voltage safety training

Over 60 people went through the headsets in a single academy day, rehearsing the EV power-down and power-up procedures that are hard and costly to practise on live vehicles.

Stellantis trains its technicians and apprentices through its Performance Academy, and the shift to electric vehicles has changed what they need to learn. High-voltage systems demand strict, sequenced safety procedures, and the academy wanted learners to build genuine procedural confidence before anyone works near a live battery.

Across the industry, high-voltage training still leans heavily on slides, demonstrations, and limited time on shared training rigs. Live EV systems carry real risk, rigs are expensive and scarce, and a whole cohort cannot gather round one vehicle and each take a meaningful turn.

Stellantis and its training partner recognised that VR could close that gap, giving every learner the chance to perform the procedure themselves, safely and repeatedly, and asked us to build it.

We built a VR training experience for the EV high-voltage power-down procedure, delivered on Meta Quest 3 at the Stellantis Performance Academy. The learner works through the procedure step by step on a fully virtual vehicle: identifying the correct components, following the safe sequence, and performing each action with their own hands rather than watching it on a screen. Restrained step guidance keeps them oriented without doing the work for them.

In 2025 we integrated the experience with the academy's learning management system using xAPI, so every attempt is tracked and evidenced automatically. In 2026 we added a companion Power Up module covering the procedure for safely re-energising the vehicle, so the training now spans the full cycle.

The experience is in regular use at the Performance Academy. At one academy session, more than 60 people went through the headsets in a single day, with a strongly positive reaction and apprentices asking for the training to be made more widely available. With xAPI in place, completions feed straight into the LMS as evidence of learning.
